Research Laboratory

The will Research Applications in Clinical Education (RACE) laboratory supports the development of innovative technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality, to develop cutting-edge educational activities for healthcare students and professionals. The ultimate aim of the Center is to improve patient outcomes and safety across the health professions.

  • Use of VR/AR for Competency Assessment - 2017 to present. Leader of an interdisciplinary team to create case studies using virtual reality for the the purpose of competency assessment (OSCE). Grant funding approved, with additional applications in progres.
  • Interprofessional Education – Collaborator – 2014-2017- member of an interdisciplinary team (nursing, graduate psychology and speech language pathology faculty) exploring the development of interprofessional skills in students using simulation and online technology.
  • Clinical Education Professional Development – 2013-2017 - Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders - Oversight of the development of comprehensive online materials for the training of clinical educators. Leadership role includes all aspects of project development to include needs assessment, the RFP process, product development, and budget management.
  • Online Masters Degree program – Development and oversight of a self-sustaining online program. Leadership roles include ongoing program evaluation, personnel and budget management, and assuring compliance with state and national accrediting bodies.
